2nd Grade Science

CURRENT 2nd GRADE UNIT

2nd Grade Science students are working on their Plant and Animal Interactions Unit

The Plant and Animal Interactions Unit will address the following major understandings:

In this unit students plan and carry out investigations to explore the needs of plants. They develop models to illustrate
how plants and animals depend on each other. Students also investigate how the needs of plants are affected by both
living and nonliving elements. The concept of structure and function is also explored as students learn how the shape of
structures found in nature relate to their function. Students apply this understanding by developing models that provide
examples of plant structures that improve function.

 Essential Question:

How do plants and animals depend on each other?

The Plant and Animal Interactions will teach the following Key Ideas:

■ Both Plants and Animals need water and food to grow.

■ Plants and Animals depend on each to survive in many ways
